Rotary President Charlene Melchers

Charlene Melchers is a native of Rosamond. The daughter of Harold and Jessie Young, she has four sisters all raised in Rosamond and schooled through Southern Kern Unified School District. She graduated Salutatorian from Rosamond High School, attended Antelope Valley College and graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix.

Family is an important aspect of Charlene's life. She has been married to Gene Melchers for 38 years. They spent a year in U-Tapao, Thailand and Merced California, as well as four years in Anamosa, Iowa prior to returning to make Rosamond their home. They have two children who live nearby. Tamara Horner has three sons, Dakota, Griffin and Hudson. JR Melchers has sons Trey and Ryan as well as daughter Tori.

Charlene recently retired after working 30 years for the Southern Kern Unified School District. She currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Rosamond Community Services District as Vice-President.

Besides Rotary she has been active in community activities including PTA, Rosamond Educational Partnership, Health Fairs, Rosamond Pageants, Chamber of Commerce, Septemberfest committee, as well as the RCSD Foundation.

Her favorite sport is soccer. She continues to be active in the local American Youth Soccer Organization (Region #826). Over the past 27 years she has participated as Team Mom, Coach, Referee, Treasurer, Region Commissioner and now back to coaching her grandsons.

As President of the Rotary Club of Rosamond, her goals are to promote community and international projects; embrace other Rotary clubs in joint ventures and expand awareness of Rotary goals.
